Our children volunteered to help at the Broadlands Community Food Pantry on Dec 12th, 2009.  The pantry opens on the second and fourth Saturdays each month from 9-10:45AM, and services families in need of food in a fifteen mile radius.  Although they do state in their brochure “No one in need for food has been turned away”.  The pantry is operated out of the Broadlands Community Church in Broadlands, IL.  They had 40 families come through that Saturday.  I talked with Reverend Mark Slaatte.  He said there is a growing need because of the current economic problems.

The people who work the pantry on a regular basis were orderly, efficient, compassionate, and kind.  It is a great way for a family to spend a Saturday morning doing volunteer work that supports local people in Champaign County in Illinois.

Monetary donations are more effective than food donations, as they pantry has access to purchase 10 times the amount of food from food banks than can be purchased in a store.

Donation checks may be made out to “Broadlands Community Food Pantry”
